“Monster” started as a text from Shaya Zamora with an audio file and an idea. The song details a toxic relationship. “They don’t bring out the best in each other, and they know it, but for some reason, they can’t let go—or even try to become better for one another.”

colby! took the song to brother and producer RJ Johnson, and through experimentation with new styles and lyrics, created something special.

colby! has been named an artist to watch by Galore and Fault. She grew up surrounded by live music in Fort Worth, TX. Creative arts like singing, writing, baking, painting, and performing have allowed her to cope with a severe dyslexia diagnosis at the age of 8. After 3 years of intensive therapy, colby! learned how to slow down her brain enough to try to read. She has been cowriting music with her brother RJ Johnson, a graduate of Berklee College of music since the age of 14.
